Mad Rush to Reserve the Fiesta

The reservations program Ford set up for the up-and-coming 2011 Ford Fiesta is seeing some real action. Out of the many thousands already reserving their vehicle on Ford’s dedicated reservation system, nearly 60% of them are opting for the higher –end model, while 65% are choosing the 5-door hatchback. The top color specifications include Blue Flame and Lime Squeeze.

There’s no doubt that there’s going to be a mad rush for the Midway Ford doors on release date when the Fiesta arrives later this year. Ford has already seen thousands of unprecedented “conquest customers” – those customers that are coming from different auto brands – from Honda, Toyota, Jeep and Saturn owners, to name just a few. A compact car with a surprisingly spacious cabin, fuel-conscious and nimble, the Fiesta will deliver to American drivers what the European drivers have known for the last 18 months – that you can have efficiency, maneuverability and smart styling without a hefty price tag.

2011 Ford SuperDuty

Ford does it again with the all-new Ford F-Series Super Duty. Rebuilt from the ground up, this year’s Super Duty provides unmatched torque, horsepower, towing and payload capabilities for its class, making it the most powerful heavy-duty pickup available.

Not only that, but the 2011 Super Duty is fuel conscious as well. It does its job more efficiently, allowing you to use far less fuel and its reliable enough to have a less frequent maintenance schedule, which translates to lower operational costs overall.

“The 2011 Super Duty is not only the most powerful, most capable and fuel-efficient heavy-duty pickup truck on the road, it performs the tough jobs with even more efficiency than ever before,” said Ford’s truck group marketing manager, Doug Scott. “Customers can be confident that Super Duty’s class-leading capability comes with best-in-class fuel economy.”

The newly-designed diesel and gas engine powertrains make the Super Duty’s towing and payload capacity possible. It is able to tow 26,400 pounds on the F550 chassis cab [with fifth-wheel hitch] and carry a payload of 6,520 pounds on the F-350 dual rear-wheel pickup. The 6.7 liter Power Stroke V8 turbocharged diesel engine produces a remarkable 735 of torque and 390 HP at 2,800 RPM. It also allows you to use B20 biodiesel fuel as well.

Additionally, the newly designed E85-compatible 6.2L V8 engine can produce 405 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 RPM and 385 HP at 5,500 RPM. Paired with these engines is the brand new 6R140 heavy –duty TorqShift 6-speed automatic transmission – an efficient transmission largely responsible for the greatly improved fuel economy.

“The new transmission is a ‘clean-sheet’ design, developed specifically to handle the significantly increased torque produced by the new diesel engine and the higher rotational speeds produced by the new gas engine, and to deliver the power to the wheels seamlessly and efficiently for heavy-duty truck customers,” said Ford’s transmission engineering manager, Al Bruck. “Each system and component was scrutinized to deliver optimum performance.”

With the 2011 Ford Super Duty, Ford has produced the most fuel-efficient vehicle of its class. Strong, clean and confident enough to conquer any job you throw at it, the 2011 Ford Super Duty is a class leader with unmatched versatility and optimum performance.

2011 Ford Fiesta

With its debut in the US, the 2011 Ford Fiesta is more than just a great value – it’s a refreshing message to the world that America can still make a fantastic car. The Fiesta delivers that message with an intricate balance of superior styling, interior space, remarkable handling and superb refinement.

For a compact car, the interior is surprisingly spacious. Good attention has been paid to providing a fresh, open-air feel, and the interior surfaces are dressed in high-quality materials and a tight fit and finish. The dash looks and feels solid, with neatly arranged controls all steeped in a contemporary design. The seats are comfortable with plenty of head and leg space, while the rear cargo area offers a generous amount of room for your cargo.

Sitting in it is a great experience, but driving it is even better. It is perky and responsive, allowing the driver to stay connected to the road. Its turning abilities are unmatched in its class – weaving through traffic and into parking spaces is effortless and confident. Round this out with a quiet cabin and a reactive chassis, the 2011 Ford Fiesta provides a welcome driving experience you simply can’t get from its competitors.

But we saved the best for last – the fuel economy is among the best in its class, and that’s impressive because its fuel-conscious competitors – hybrids and small-engine compacts – are the most efficient in the world. The 2011 Ford Fiesta’s 115hp engine is faster than a Prius and still gets about 40 miles to the gallon, a score that isn’t too far from Prius’ EPA estimates.

We Americans are finally getting an opportunity to see why the Europeans love this car so much – it’s economical on the wallet and at the pumps; it’s a great drive and the workmanship on the inside and outside is the best in its class. With the 2011 Ford Fiesta, Ford delivers a genuinely exciting vehicle with a remarkably affordable price tag. Two Millionth SYNC

Ford announced today that they have officially installed Sync in 2 million vehicles. For those unfamiliar with the technology, SYNC is Ford’s hands-free technology, allowing Ford owners to enjoy voice-activated, hands-free calling, advanced calling features, audible text messages, multilingual intelligence, 911 Assist, various traffic features, directions by destination and much, much more.

Set-up is a breeze, and you’ll find almost every smartphone is supported by the system. The SYNC system works great, and Ford says it is so good, it is actually directly increasing sales, along with improving its image. Keeping auto buyers connected to the ever-growing digital age is a smart move, and we are excited that Ford has one of the most robust and reliable hands-free systems in the industry.

SYNC, and the 2010 lineup of Ford vehicles , has shown how easily this great American company is able to respond to a downturn in the economy and produce reliable, safe, efficient vehicles the population doesn’t just want, but actually needs. In an economic time where many automakers shy away from what they may consider as risky innovation, we are excited that Ford has embraced so many new ideas and set forth to deliver bold, new technology and exciting, new car models.

Another gift from Europe

The Transit Connect is doing well stateside

The Ford Fiesta is not the only European Ford to hit stateside, the Ford Transit Connect is another European treasure recently arrived. Built as a small, practical cargo van, the Transit Connect is meant to serve the same audience as the ancient Econoline Van, but manage that audience’s needs in a smaller, lighter, more efficient way.

Light on its toes and easily maneuvered, the Transit Connect is meant to be as dexterous as it is efficient, and an excellent choice for managing the typically restrictive narrows of urban life and the immense traffic that so often plagues it. During our tests in downtown Miami’s streets, the Transit Connect proved itself to be as nimble as a front-wheel hatchback. Visibility, so often neglected in the light commercial trucking class, is remarkable. Huge side mirrors and the immense rear door glass make reversing never a question of faith. The braking is responsive even when hauling a full load, and you’ll be happy to hear the 136 HP and the 128HP of the 2.0 liter Duratec engine is more than enough to keep the Transit Connect spritely and confident.

Inside, you’ll get a long list of available technology. One of the many that impressed us was the DeWalt’s ToolLink system. Using RFID technology, the ToolLink system helps you keep track of what needs to be inside your truck before you go. This ensures you’ll never leave your valuable tools at a job site or forgotten in your workshop before departing. Even more versatile is the available wireless in-dash computer. Using 2G or 3G wireless data networks, you can surf the web, search addresses and maps, create documents AND print them off the option BlueTooth printer.

Maximum load and space is generous, allowing you a full 52 inches overhead. Cargo capacity is an impressive 135 cubic feet behind the front seats, with 1,600 pounds of full load capacity. But the best part of the Ford Transit Connect is the fuel efficiency. Gone are the days of greedy, fuel-slugging work vans. The Transit Connect can achieve 22 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, putting this vehicle at the top of the efficiency charts for work vehicles.

We have to admit we are excited about the Ford Transit Connect’s versatility, capability, maneuverability and its fuel consciousness. It provides just the right mix of all four for a price tag well under its range of competitors. It is the sensibility of European design brought stateside by its American creator, and we really like the price and the implications. The age of using ancient fuel-guzzling leviathans to get through our work days is over – long live the new Transit Connect!

Ford answers with American muscle

Who doesn’t love the sight of an American muscle car lighting up its tires in a furious display of smoking power?

The 2011 model year delivers a Ford Mustang that is as capable as it is efficient.  Comfortable, fuel-conscious and still encased in that timeless Mustang design, the 2011 Ford Mustang is a car that is able to produce 305HP and still deliver 31 MPG on the highway and 19 MPG in the city with its automatic transmission.  2010 saw the Ford Mustang upgraded with comprehensive redesigns to its styling, brakes and suspension.  This year, Ford has focused on its powertrains, creating a muscle car that can produce a 5.3 second time from 0 to 60 with rollout, but still keep you passing gas stations far longer than you’d expect.

Part of the credit goes to the 2011 Mustang’s new engines.  The V6 is a 3.7 liter that uses variable inlet and exhaust valve timing to achieve its huge HP and torque numbers.  The V8 variant found in the 2011 Mustang GT trim level, a 5.0 liter Coyote, uses that same tech to produce 412HP and 390 lbs-ft of torque, and still manages to offer a generous 26MPG highway / 17 MPG City.  Further updates to the brakes and suspension also make the Mustang more thrilling to drive, with a stronger success in sport handling than the previous incarnations.

These numbers and updates currently make the Mustang the returning king of the muscle cars, kicking the Chevy Camaro to the curb by beating it in the 0-60 category and in the “fun to drive” category.  Not only that, but the new 2011 Ford Mustang is also far more versatile than its longtime Camaro competitor, giving us a trunk that is far more roomy and rear- and side-windows you can actually see out of, some things the current Camaro lacks.

In fact, a world-class interior awaits you inside.  Refreshed completely, the cabin harkens back to its retro roots with a material and finish that blows its competitors out of the water.  Everything exudes the feel and look of quality.  The steering wheel is thick, the seats comfortable and reassuring, and the controls layout are as attractive as they are intuitive.

Ford returns to glory in the sport performance class with the 2011 Ford Mustang and 2011 Ford Mustang GT.  They have designed a high-performance muscle car that can yield you 29 miles to the gallon.  Athletic, efficient and comfortable, the 2011 Mustangs are sporty cars you can drive hard but still use as a viable form of efficient, day-today transportation.  And for the price, it is a remarkable performance bargain.

The all-new 2012 Ford Focus

As the only US automaker to actually gain market share during the economic downturn, Ford seems poised to turn what has been a disaster for some American automakers into a success for themselves.  Ford’s recent successes can be attributed to offering a very strong model year in America and Europe, and looks ready to continue its conquest with the 2012 Ford Focus.

The new 2012 Ford Focus, unveiled recently at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, is designed from the ground up to set new standards for its segment.  Utilizing their “global design team”, Ford set out to build an offering that has international appeal, and it looks as if they have done just that.

The new 2012 Ford Focus has a toned and athletic stance, with a rakish design that appears to be in motion even when standing still.  With 4- and 5-door models offered, the new Focus will come in 4 trim levels and will be accentuated with distinctive headlights and in-the-body shark fin tail lamps.  A wider stance and increased track width adds a sporty air to the presentation, while an aggressive grill and sculpted side panels promises a muscular performance.  The exterior design really commands attention from every angle.

Inside, passengers will be treated to the most luxurious Focus yet, with a stylish array of instruments and controls place closed at hand and smartly laid-out.  Available technology includes Intelligent Access, push-button start, rain-sensing wipers and heated front seats.  Options for the tech-savvy include MyFord, their proprietary touch-screen system, SYNC, Active Park Assist, a rearview camera , BlueTooth communications and a voice-activated navigation system.

The Focus is powered by a new 155hp 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine boasting variable valve timing and direct injection, which provides dependable power-on-demand for an athletic drive, while the handling and suspension strikes a fantastic balance between performance and comfort.

When the Focus was introduced to the US a decade ago, it was a breakthrough sensation.  The 2012 model, completely refreshed and re-designed, stands to once again take the market by storm, with an offering that is the most upscale and stylish within its segment.  Stylish, sporty and unrivaled value for the economical price tag, the 2012 model year should keep us all in a perfect Focus.
